Quiz Night at Ysgol Rhiwabon

Ysgol Rhiwabon would like to thank Chris from Hafren Dyfrdwy for delivering interactive and informative workshops for Year 7 pupils.

He helped to inspire and motivate the whole year group to take action on environmental matters.

Thanks also to Lesley Lloyd from Careers Wales for facilitating the visit.

Alex and Lucy from Hafren Dyfrdwy also visited to share their skills, knowledge, and experience with Year 11 pupils. They learnt about employability skills and gaining valuable knowledge. As well as understanding what to expect at an interview and the skills needed for future success.

Quarry Bank Mill

Year 8 and 9 students recently spent the day learning about the cotton mill at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, near Wilmslow.

Students experienced the Apprentice House, where 90 children slept and ate after a 12-hour day in the mill. They saw the different stages of manual cotton production and how it changed with the Industrial Revolution and the invention of machines. Students also experienced the noisy conditions which these children had to work in.

One National Trust volunteer remarked that the students were excellently behaved and a credit to the school and their families.

Song for Wrexham

Year 7 students recently took part in a series of workshops as part of the beatbox Song for Wrexham competition. Students produced lyrics and recorded a rap about the school and the community.

If their song is successful in the Song for Wrexham competition, the school could win £1,000 worth of music activities or tuition.

The winning song will be professionally recorded and performed by the school at the Wrexham Co-operative Summer Gala Concert, held at the William Aston Hall in July.

Ruabon Rovers Youth

Ruabon Rovers Youth (Formally Overton Youth) are recruiting players for the 2024/2025 season.

They have a strong foundation with the U13s finishing fourth in the Wrexham and District U13’s top division and the U12s winning their respective league.

The open training sessions for the 2024/25 season have already taken place. However, if you are going to be in Year 8 or Year 9 in September 2024, why not come down and show them what you’ve got and potentially join their fun, friendly group?

Contact Andrew (U14s) on 07871 006 295 or Dan (U13s) on 07540 388 300.
